Last night we had a Halloween disco. I thought it was fun and it was great to see so many awesome costumes. Sadly it was my last disco at this school and I didn't feel to well for some reason but I still enjoyed watching people get their groove on. The haunted hallway was really fun to go through. Last Friday the weather was fine so Pet Day was on. A different range of animals came and the school was flooded with animals. My brother brought our two rabbits Maisy and Daisy. Unfortunately I couldn't bring my dog Tess but I still got interviewed on her. At the end of the day I won 1st place in the senior dog section. Here is a presentation I made with images of the day... Hi everyone! I haven't uploaded a blog post in a while so I thought I would get to it. As you may know, Awahono School's annual pet day is coming up. This year I am taking my dog Tess to pet day. In our classroom our task was to write an explanation about pet day. Not sure what pet day is? Read my explanation below... Pet day is an annual event held at Awahono School, Grey Valley. It usually happens in early term 4 which is normally spring. This is because of the time of year and season. It happens then because it is a time when all the lambs, calves and any other animal you can think of that is born. Children from rooms 1, 2, 5 and 6 create a pet project (a creation that has a lot of information on their pet) based on the animal they are bringing. Even if they are unable to bring a pet they do a pet project based on an animal they have at home or an animal that they like. The pet projects are displayed in their classroom. Children can bring any animal they like, as long as it is tame, safe and not going to bite anyone or another animal. Every year a range of different animals attend pet day. At our school we held a mini Olympics. On the day we had activities and games that everyone competed in a tried to win a medal. For third place they got a bronze medal. For second place we got a silver medal and for first place they got a gold medal. The games were gumboot throwing, tug of war, blindfolded bat house, egg survival course, dino hop and ring shooting. Each game / activity had a leader. I was the leader of gum boot throwing. What I enjoyed most about the day was watching people throw gumboots as far as they could. I found it funny that someone almost hit me with a gumboot! At the closing ceremony all the leaders had to choose 3 people overall to give a excellence award, friendship award and respect award. I gave Kieran (Room 1) the excellence award, Bella (Room 2) the friendship award and Mia (Room 6) the respect award. I chose these people because they were cheering people on, not mucking about and trying their best. On the day lots of people received medals - well done

Over the past few days we have been working on commentary. The task we were given was to write commentary about a running sport in the olympics. I chose the 100 metre sprint. I found it a bit challenging because I had never done it before but once I watched a video of Usain Bolt I got an idea of what I had to do. Here is my olympic commentary... Ok folks! Here at the Olympic Stadium, in Beijing, it's the final race time for the Men’s sprint in the 2008 summer olympic games. You all know what it is. It’s the 100 metre sprint! Lets kick start this and look at who we’v e got here today on the track. In lane one and five we’ve a couple of competitors from the Netherlands. Next in lane 4 we’ve got Usain Bolt from Jamaica, previous world record holder. He’s in his eye catching yellow and green singlet. Back in lane two we have Chen Ding and Wang Zhen in lane three. As you may know, the 2016 Olympics are coming up very shortly. Each of us got given a name of a country that is going to the Rio Olympics. I got given Great Britain. We made a fact file that had pictures and facts about our country. Welcome to term 3! I did a couple things in the holidays. I went to Zara's birthday party and Ashleigh's birthday party. The day after Ashleighs birthday we went to the aquatic centre in Greymouth because the scouts were having a meeting. I also went to the bookarama in Greymouth with my family. Some things events that are happening this term is the ASB Netball and the Kapa Haka Festival.   Please make a comment below about what you did in the holidays or what you are looking forward to this term.

Last Friday we held the fun run. The Fun Run is where we run around the school going under tables and having fun! On the day we sold baking and sausages with bread (the money went to our class camp to Murchison). I made a presentation that has some photos of the fun run, the baking, and the activities we did at the end of the day...  

Recently we learnt how to write acrostic poems. We each wrote a acrostic poem about winter, here is mine.... Please comment below if you wish....

Rugby 7's Tournament (Tuesday) On Tuesday the year 7 and 8's (and a couple year 6's) will be attending the Rugby 7's tournament on Tuesday.  - Good Luck!  Fun Run (Friday) On Friday is the whole school Fun Run. We each got handed out a sponsorship booklet and we had to raise as much money as we could for the event. After the fun raising we get to choose a prize. Some of us are still fundraising and at the moment I have funraised $55.70. There is going to be a dress up theme for the fun run but we haven't decided yet! (I hope it's rainbow!)

Yesterday we went to Shantytown for the day. We got dressed up in olden day clothes and some of the teachers and parents even did too! The girls had to wear a dress, a pinafore and a bonnet. The boys wore pants, a long sleeved tee-shirt and a hat that they had to tip to us. I was quite funny seeing everyone dressed up in olden day clothes that we would not were toady.  We had to behave like people did in 1800's and said "Yes Mam" every time the teacher asked or said something. Those teachers were Miss Mears and Miss Barba.  The most fun thing to me was when we had to take photos of us dressed up in costumes doing a job that they had to do back then.  On my groups sheet of paper, we had entertainment and hospitality. I dressed up as a Kan Kan Girl, Katie was playing the piano, Nicole was a waiter and Mia was a bar tender.  It was also quite fun when we had make a pack that was water proof and easy to carry. In maths, I have been working on multiplying using tidy numbers. I created a DLO afterwards to show my learning and I am now sharing it to you. Here is my DLO.... I hope you learn something!

This book that I read contains several very funny short comics. It has just over 120 pages in it. This book is written by Matt Groening. I would recommend it for year 6 and up.

In our classroom, we made comics based on keeping ourselves safe online. We had to go into buddies and make a comic about something not good happening online. Monique and I did a comic together and it is below if you would like to read it....   I enjoyed making the comic because I had never made a comic before and it was fun.

Because I read this book and I loved it! I would recommend it for year 5 and up!

Tomorrow some of us are going to the Soccer Tournament in Greymouth. For the past 2 weeks we have been training every lunch for it. I think we have a good team and if we work together we can do it! But it might be cancelled due to rain, but hopefully it is on! Oh and a big thanks to Mr Matthews for training with us!

Hello! Its school time again and welcome to term 2! I spent most of my holidays relaxing and playing the Play station 2 on rainy days. But on sunny days I was playing tag outside with my Brother or playing Basketball. I enjoyed playing Netball because I got 10 goals in! We ended up winning the game with a score of 21! Lets just say overall I had a great holiday! This term I am looking forward to the Basketball team starting up. Our first game is this week!  What did you do in the holidays? Write a comment below!

In our classroom we have been reading the book Juggling With Mandarins. We made a word find with all the emotions that Philip was experiencing during that chapter. Everyday in our classroom for at least 10 minutes we practice Touch Typing. We do this to get better at typing with the right fingers on the right home keys. I have recently read a book called Benson's Big Book Of Freak Outs. This book is very funny with lots of bright and colourful illustrations. I would recommend this book for ages 10+.

Every morning we do Touch Typing for 10 minutes. We practice placing our hands correctly and sitting up straight.
