English Term 1 - 10EV

I have enjoyed English so far. At the start of every class we do a 'big question' to get us in the habit of writing and to prepare ourselves for the English period.

Last term, we started reading a novel called The Absolutely True Diary Of A Part Time Indian, by Sherman Alexie. Which I really enjoyed. After we read a few chapters we would have an activity to do related to the book. I made a timeline of the main events that happened during the book. Click on the link too see my timeline

We also practised the S-e-x-y paragraph structure. I know this might found a bit odd, but the letters actually stand for something. S - statement, E - explanation, X - example and Y - your opinion. I found this method handy to write a good, detailed paragraph. Here is an example:

We both have a strong opinion which is that Juniors biggest challenge was finding hope and, breaking the chains that stereotype Indians as nobody's. This is his biggest challenge because in the reservation Indians live up to the stereotypes to a T; they are poor, they will not get anywhere in life because there is no hope. He overcame that challenge by having hope that he was going somewhere in this world. He acted on that by moving to Reardon to further his education and get amazing opportunities.  For Junior; Moving schools was the foundation to him not becoming like the people on the reservation whom Mr. P urged him to not be like.
