Science

Every week our classroom has been doing science experiments in which everyone is taking part in. We got to choose our science experiment and I chose to make a lava lamp.  The list below is what you need to do to make this and what you need:

What you need:

  1. Water
  2. A clear plastic bottle
  3. Vegetable oil
  4. Food colouring
  5. Alka-seltzer (or other tablets that fizz)

Instructions:

  1. Pour water until around one quarter full (might want to use a funnel).
  2. Pour in vegetable oil until the bottle is nearly full.
  3. Wait until the oil and water has separated.
  4. Add around a dozen drop of food colouring to the bottle (any colour)
  5. Watch as the food colouring falls through the oil and mixes with the water.
  6. Cut a Alka-seltzer into smaller pieces (around six or five) drop one piece into the bottle, things should start happening now just like a real lava lamp.
  7. Keep adding more pieces in and enjoy the show!

You need to keep adding more Alka-seltzer to keep your lava lamp going.

Here are some images of what the lava lamp looked like once it was done:
