Term 1, Media Studies

This term in Media Studies I learnt a lot about camera angles and their effects. I learnt that there are 10 main camera shots.
Establishing shot, establishes the setting and shows the big picture.
Long shot, taken a long way from the actors.
Mid shot, shows the characters from the middle up wards.
Close up shot, gives a close look at a characters face or significant object.
Extreme close up shot, shows an extremely close-up view of a character or object.
Eye level angle, the camera is at the same level as the characters are. It shows us exactly what someone else might see on the screen.
High angle, the camera looks down on the scene from a high angle
Low angle, the camera looks up from below
Point of view shot, looks at the scene as if the camera was a character in the scene
Over the shoulder shot, shows the scene as if you were standing behind the character and seeing what they see.

  1. Great work Hayley Jo. You've made a good summary of the different camera shots and angles. You could refer back to this when you plan and make some more film this term.
